JACK LUDWIG: Male; 30-35, practical and somewhat reserved. He is Jewish and was born and raised in Pennsylvania. Drafted into the Army in WWII, he is a medic stationed in Medford, Oregon. He is a bit proper and shy about dating. He writes to Louise and hopes to date her (their fathers are friends). He is enchanted by her freedom and her passion to be a Broadway actress. They fall in love through their letters. Any Ethnicity.
LOUISE RABINER: Female; 20s, A passionate young Dancer and Actress who has big dreams of reaching Broadway. She is Jewish and Brooklyn born and raised, but lives in the theatre district at the Curtain Call Boarding House for young actresses who train and audition to make it in New York. She writes letters back and forth to Jack Ludwig, a 30-year-old Medic who is stationed in Medford, Oregon in World War II. She is taken with his shyness and reserve and falls in love with him through their letters. Any Ethnicity.

MRS. WYLIE: Female, 50s. General Manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. A force of nature; an extravagant, ruthless, outspoken, businesswoman. Appreciates those loyal to her and doesn’t like taking no for an answer. Any ethnicity.
JO: Female, late 20s. Mrs. Wylie’s assistant. Engaged to Jerry. Smart and hardworking. Values results over image. Underneath it all, she has a passion for music. Strong comic who can sing. Any ethnicity.
JERRY: Male; mid 30s. Mrs. Wylie’s son. Engaged to Jo. A lawyer who ADORES opera. Any ethnicity.
ELENA FIRENZI: Female; 30-45, A famous Italian soprano and an absolute force of nature, beautiful, magnificent and tempestuous. Also, kind, nurturing and generous. Strong comic who can sing.
PASQUALE FIRENZI: Male; 30-50, A worthy consort to his wife, Elena, he is handsome and impressive. Strong Italian accent.
BELLHOP: Any gender; 20s-40s, the hotel bellhop and a HUGE fan of Elena and opera. Any ethnicity.
LEO: Male; late 20s. An ambitious local tenor with a Dutch accent. Handsome, athletically built, self confident. Any ethnicity.
JULIA: Female; 50s-60s, A Society Type who is Chair of the Opera Guild. Any ethnicity.

Woman #2: (She/her, Black, vocal range: C#3/Db3-A5) - Portrays Diana Ross of the Supremes as well as the lead singer of the Chiffons, Judy Craig. Sings songs such as “One Fine Day,” “Where Did Our Love Go?, “Come See About Me, and others.
Woman #3: (She/her, vocal range: F3-D5) - Warm and expressive with a lyrical voice. Performs You Can't Hurry Love, My Boyfriend's Back, Where The Boys Are, and others.
Woman #4: (She/her, vocal range: C#3-Db3) - Possesses a warm voice with a high belt. Performs To Sir, With Love, Somebody To Love, Cry Baby, Me and Bobby McGee, and others. Performer inspiration: Janis Joplin.
Woman #5: (She/her, vocal range: F3-F5) - Charismatic with a strong, powerful, and bold voice. Performs Be My Baby, You Don't Own Me, Son of a Preacher Man, and others.

Practiced in making you think she’s got it all together, but she’s guarding a secret she doesn’t wear on her sleeve. Black.
MARTIN: Male; 41, Nine years on the job. Mansplaining, dad jokes, and run-of-the-mill machismo thinly mask a profound desire to love and be loved. With less wear-and-tear, he might be attractive - ruggedly handsome, even - but you’d swallow hot coals before saying that to his face. White.
